Los miomas uterinos o también denominados como leiomiomas o fibromiomas, son los tumores benignos sólidos más comunes en el útero. La prevalencia de los mismos ha sido subestimada ya que los estudios se centran en mujeres sintomáticas; la misma varía dependiendo de la región, país, método de diagnóstico y la población estudiada, entre el 5% al 60% de mujeres tienen miomas, y el 30% de estos producen síntomas como sangrado uterino anormal, dolor pélvico o sensación de pesadez pélvica1.
