The COVID19 pandemic presents challenges for all healthcare providers and patients. Virus mortality has been directly related to morbid obesity and its associated comorbidities. The sanitary measures to prevent massive contagions and the restrictions imposed by the government decrees in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic have had as an undesired effect the paucity of scheduled medical care in general, and of 80% of elective surgeries. Such inattention presents risks for patients with morbid obesity. It is estimated that the pandemic and the incidence of contagion will continue for several months and even years. The recommendations proposed by various organizations worldwide do not present guidelines on how to return to safe metabolic surgery. As a society, we present a proposal to return to activities taking into account the observation of the health authorities, the protection of patients and medical personnel, patient preparation and the stratification of care based on physiological and surgical parameters.
