Abstract

Totally edentulous patients should opt for the replacement of their missing teeth, since these treatments improve their quality of life. The therapy options that can be performed on them are: conventional total dentures and implant-supported ones. Objective: To compare the perception of the quality of life of oral health among totally edentulous patients rehabilitated with total tissue-supported prostheses or with implant-supported prostheses, which was carried out in the postgraduate clinics of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Central University of Ecuador, in the period 2019-2020. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional analytical observational study, in 24 totally edentulous patients who were rehabilitated with conventional and implant-supported total dentures, male and female. The sample was divided into two groups: G1: patients with implant-supported prostheses (n= 12), G2: patients with conventional full dentures (n= 12). The SF-36 questionnaire was completed in each group, which assessed their perception of quality of life related to their general health, and the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) questionnaire. The U Mann-Withey and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was applied with a significance level of 5%. Conclusions: Patients with implant-supported prostheses have a better perception of quality of life compared to patients with conventional total dentures, from the point of view of general and oral health, respectively.
